Send large files free, with no size limit

Upload services cap the size and make you wait twice, once to upload and once to download. Beam-It sends the file straight from your device to the other one, so there is no upload and no size limit.

How to do it

  1. Open Beam-It on your device

Go to beamfiles.vercel.app in the browser. There is nothing to install and no account to make.

  2. Add the other device

Tap Add another device. Scan the QR code, open the link, or type the 6-letter pairing code on the other device. Allow it once and Beam-It remembers it.

  3. Send

Choose the files, or drop them on the device's card. They arrive on the other screen, ready to open or save. It works the same in both directions.

How large files are handled

  • No upload step

The file goes directly from one device to the other. Nothing is stored on a server.
  • Written straight to disk

In Chrome or Edge on a computer, a file over 250 MB is saved to the place you choose while it arrives.
  • Carries on after a break

If the connection drops, the transfer continues from where it stopped when the devices reconnect.
  • Checked on arrival

Both sides check that the file arrived unchanged, and it is marked Verified.

Questions

How large can a file be?

Beam-It sets no limit. For very large files, receive in Chrome or Edge on a computer. Other browsers hold the file in memory until it is saved, so the device's memory is the limit there.

How fast is it?

As fast as the connection between the two devices. On the same Wi-Fi it is usually much faster than uploading and downloading.

Can I send to someone who doesn't use Beam-It?

Yes. Make a one-time link for the file and send it to them. They download it straight from your device, so keep Beam-It open until they have it.

Do both devices have to stay open?

Yes. Both need Beam-It open for the whole transfer.
